Saving Money on Decorating Toddler Rooms

One of the things I’m looking forward to most about having kids is dressing them up in cute little outfits, and decorating their first rooms. With that said, decorating a baby or toddler’s room can get expensive very quickly. If you are decorating a toddler’s room, here are just a few ideas to help you save money on bedding and accessories, and create a bedroom full of fun without spending a lot of money.

Decorating Thoughts

Toddlerhood can be a challenging time for parents because children at this age start to become more independent. Toddlers have a ton of energy and curiosity. They are always keen to explore their environment and engage in imaginative play. The best décor for a toddler’s room should be full of fun and imagination. You can personalize your kid’s bedroom by putting a poster of their favorite movie, cartoon, or book character. Bright and lively wallpaper and wall stickers can also help to brighten up the room.

Toddlers spend about 40% of their time asleep so it’s important to ensure the bed you choose is comfortable and safe. Toddler bedding comes in lots of different sizes and designs. Some bedding is character themed, such as a princess castle or a race car. Character themed bedding can be more expensive than generic bedding. Be careful about spending too much money on character bedding because fads can come and go quickly. You may also want to avoid character themed bedding because your kids will outgrow their preferences. However, you should choose something your child likes to make the transition from crib to toddler bed easier. This will also encourage your kid to sleep in their own bed as much as possible.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with different colors when decorating. Install a dimmer switch to enable you to check on a sleeping toddler. Toddlers who are afraid to sleep in the dark may prefer to sleep in dimmed lighting. Create a cozy corner with soft rug where your kid can read or play. A handmade, personalized growth chart is a wonderful addition to your kid’s room.

Tips to Save You Money

Another way you can save some money is to consider how long your kid will be using the bed and bedding, and whether it can be passed down to a younger sibling. If you’re thinking of using the toddler bed and bedding for a long time, invest in high quality products. Just make sure they still fit within your budget. Spending a bit more upfront for a higher quality product will save you money in the long run. A toddler convertible bed that can be adapted as your kid grows is sometimes a good option.

Don’t buy furniture that is overtly geared toward one gender or stereotype. You never know how your child’s taste and preferences will change as they grow up. Instead you should choose classic and timeless furniture. My parents made a smart decision by getting full-sized furniture (headboard, dresser, night stand, etc) for my brother and I when we were just kids. To this day, but my brother and I still have the same furniture because it is high quality and timeless.

Make decorating fun by involving your kid in the decision-making. This will also help you to create a space that both of you love.
